Symptoms related to urinary tract infection

Urinary Tract Infection causes a great deal of discomfort. Women are more prone to contracting this debilitating disease than men are. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that over 25 million women suffer from the various symptoms related to urinary tract infection every year. Recent surveys have shown that women are 30 times more predisposed to a bladder infection than men are. It is believed that over 40% of women will be infected with Urinary Tract Infection at some point in their lives. That's about 25 million women every year.

Short Urethra: The main reason why women are more subjected to Urinary Tract Infection or bladder infection than men are, is mainly due to the fact that their urethra is much shorter than their male counterpart; Thus making their urethra much closer to the anus. For this very reason about 90% of all Urinary Tract Infection or bladder infection is caused by the Escherichia coli (E coli) and other bacteria that are closely associated with the rectum.

Poor Hygiene: Because of bad hygiene, some women unwittingly pull these bacteria on the urethra, causing the bacteria to spread to the urinary tract causing an infection. As was previously mention, bacteria from the bowel, like Escherichia coli (E coli) flourish near the rectum, if this area in not properly washed, these bacteria tend to spread and inter the urethra. Consequently, they travel into your urethra causing an infection.

Purpose of the Urinary Tract: Keep this basic fact in mind; the main purpose is to remove liquid waste from the body. If for any reason this function is impeded in any way, the chance of developing a bladder infection will be increased. For this very reason it is important that you relieve yourself whenever you have any inkling to urinate.

Sexually Active Women: women that are sexually active are also more prone to developing or bladder infection, especially those that have multiple sexual partners. The basic explanation is; during intercourse the penile will push any bacteria that may be dwelling in the vagina into the urethra, which in turn may cause an infection.
